Handmade Festival - full of lovingly handcrafted comedy

With one May Bank Holiday weekend all done and dusted, it's fair to assume most of us are already looking forward to the next one at the end of the month. And unless you've been under a rock or in a coma recently, you'll probably be aware that Handmade Festival is taking place over the next Bank Holiday weekend. An evolution of White Noise festival which has seen a host of local bands playing at Firebug over the last few years, Handmade is a full-on arts festival, with music, film, performance, art and of course, comedy, taking place across the city.

Obviously I would recommend checking out all that the festival has to offer by visiting http://handmadefestival.co.uk/ but I thought it worth listing all the comedy events so that you're in the know. So here goes:

Infectious energy: Rob Deering
FRIDAY 24th:
Rob Deering and James Acaster @ Firebug 6:30 - 8:30
Two shows not to be missed by two of the national circuit's finest comedians. Deering mixes stand-up with inventive musical performance and his infectious energy never fails to leave you giggling uncontrollably at his antics. Acaster is an engaging and assured stand-up with a unique ability to latch onto a tiny idea and run with it to an obsessive extent.

SATURDAY 25th:
Improv (TBC) @ Firebug 3:30
Dan Nicholas's Conversation Garden @ Firebug 4:30
An early mainstay of the new 'Upstairs at the Western' fringe theatre, this show is a mix of games, stand up, jingles and wine, in which 'local deadbeat' Dan and his housemates ask you the audience about your lives: jobs, faults and quirks.

Warped: Barbara Steele's Wheels of Steel
SUNDAY 26th:
Barbara Steele's Wheels of Steele (selected sketches) @ Firebug 5:30
Nominated for Best Show at Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival 2013, this show is an insane mix of bizarre characters, stupid dancing, warped celebrities and apocalyptic rave, quite unlike anything else you're likely to see. Featuring local mavericks Leanne Mckie, Barnaby J Thompson, Lindsey Warnes-Carroll and Ian Hall, this is an 'edited highlights' version - a taster if you like, for the the full 2-hour show which returns to the stage in June.

Naughty prose: Robin Ince
MONDAY 27th:
Figurehead of bookish, rationalist comedy Robin Ince appears at the official afterparty at Firebug (not included in the festival ticket) introducing his Dirty Book Club - a journey through some of the most bizarre passages of erotic fiction, including sex during killer crab attacks, liaisons with donkeys… and a bit on De Sade!

Also, Duffy's Bar on Pocklington's Walk will also be acting as a sort of 'comedy tent' for the weekend, hosting a plethora of acts including:
Joe Ross Williams, Rob Coleman, Matt Holmes, Martin England, Robert Kemp, Reuben Williams-Smith, Sarah Keyworth
